![]() Alice Puleo of Sauquoit, NY passed away on Saturday, May 11, 2013 with her loving family by her side. She was 82. Alice was born in Frankfort, NY on May 6, 1931, daughter of the late Fargo and Emily Karouf Serway, and received her education in Frankfort schools. On February 10, 1951, Alice was united in marriage with Constantine "Tino" Puleo at St. Mary's Church in Frankfort. Alice and Tino shared a blessed union of over 50 years, residing in Chadwicks and later Sauquoit, until his death on December 4, 2003. Alice owned and operated Alice's Beauty Salon in Chadwicks for over 35 years. She enjoyed her career as a cosmetologist, working alongside her daughter Connie. She took great pride and satisfaction in beautifying her customers, many of whom were like family. Prior to this career, she was employed at UNIVAC for 20 years. Alice was a communicant of St. Patrick's/St. Anthony's Catholic Church where she was an active member of its Altar Rosary Society. She was also a loyal member of the Sauquoit Valley Lions Club and E. L. Clonan Post 1000 of the American Legion. Alice enjoyed bowling, music, singing, dancing, and going to the casino. She was also an outstanding cook of both Italian and Armenian cuisines. Her greatest joy was entertaining and cooking for her family and friends. Alice was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will forever be loved by those she leaves behind, including her children; Gary & Sharon Puleo, Connie & John Griffin, Michael Puleo, Kathy & Scott Briggs, and Maria Puleo; her 13 grandchildren Lisa Griffin, David Griffin & Mandy Johnson, Michael Griffin, Melissa & Steve Weaver, Michelle & Jim O'Brien, Andrea & Eric MacDiarmid, Ryan & Alexandra Secord, Gary Puleo II & Shelby Fondario, Scott & Abbey Briggs, Andrew Briggs & Nadine Karrat, Anthony, Ashley & Erica Puleo; her 10 great-grandchildren Tori, Gavin, Alaina & Brynn Weaver, JP & Kennedy O'Brien, Emma & Ava MacDiarmid, Ethan Puleo, and Aniyah Case. Alice also leaves behind her sisters Sophie Pelose, Helen Miner and her husband Ron, and Freda Orbinati, her brother Dr. Raymond Serway and his wife Betty, and sister and brother-in-laws Joan Serway, Frank Traglia, Dan & Mamie Guggi, and Laura Puleo. She also leaves behind many special godchildren, nieces, nephews and friends, especially her dear friend Irene Rose. She was predeceased by her husband Tino, daughter-in-law Denise Puleo, brothers George, John & Alec Serway, sister Virginia Traglia, and sister and brother-in-laws Jeanette Ischia, Fritz Pelose and Chuck Orbinati. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 9:15 am from Smith Funeral Home, 3022 Oneida Street, Sauquoit and 10:00 at St. Patrick's/St. Anthony's Catholic Church where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Abraham Esper. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Tuesday at the funeral home from 3-7 pm. Donations in Alice's name can be made to Hospice & Palliative Care, St. Patrick/St. Anthony's Building Fund or Sauquoit Valley Lions Club. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. The family would like to thank Hospice & Palliative Care, especially Julie and Justin, for assisting in her care during her illness. We will be forever grateful to our beloved Maria who was devoted to caring for her mother during her final years.
